Years Later: Day Four: Wednesday, August 12, 2001
On August 12th, we head back to the Melbourne airport in the morning and
take off to Chicago for our connecting flight home to San Jose. I look
out my seat window and there before me was one of the most spectacular
sights I was all too familiar by now but the Kennedy Space Center and
Cape Carnaval. I hadn’t realized that we fly so close to a sensitive
area of Florida. I was wondering at the time, that if anyone had any thought
of destroying our national treasure as a symbolic jester to hurt our nation’s
pride, it would be a terrorist onboard a jet liner very much like the
one I was on, to do the deed. Little did I realize, that was exactly was
being planned. Those thoughts would come back to haunt me forever.
