2010 A Scrapbook Odyssey
I am proud to present you my exhibition, 2001 - 2010: the Double Odyssey that was inaugurated by two highly respected officials, Jörn Tjaden High representing the ESA (European Space Agency) and Joel Barre Director of CSG (Centre Spatial Guyanais) to the CNES (Centre National d'śtudes spatiales).

The exhibition will close at the end of this commemorative year. I present nearly all my collection including a collection of models kits; both garage kits and officially licensed, prints, magazines, lobby cards, books and photographs. Among the collectibles, there are two original models of the Starchild and a Discovery spine module that comes from a large version of the Discovery model. The interface of the HAL 9000 as seen in the 2010 sequel movie with a screen next to it, showcasing pictures and the Space Station rotates, as the 2010 Discovery version, and movies can be seen on a big flat screen, with the music of both movies, 2001/2010 are played for an "other world" experience. There are two "life size" Monoliths, - i.e. sized as the one seen with the ape-men and lunar surface sequences - that welcome the visitors. The visitors think the monoliths are very impressive, and no one could resist touching the surface as the man apes do in the film!

There are numbers that identify each of the objects presented, and texts explain who is who on the panels and descriptions of everything placed on glass. I also placed a "gold book" as the visitors can write what they think (the best, I hope!) about the exhibition. Aside the Hal 9000 interface, a real vintage Apple 2c computer is presented to the public - the same one as used by professor Floyd (Roy Scheider) in the sequel beach scene, which is treat for the visitors which for the most part are engineers. I finally envisioned the exhibition I always wanted to do, plus a book on the beautiful models used in the sequel because I believe the Peter Hyams movie is better than most think. I remember reading some 30 years ago, a special issue of Starlog, with the two 2001 vessels published in the articles. I had only one of them, the re-issued Orion shuttle model kit (you know, the one with the strange red, blue and yellow decoration on the box art, and the other vehicles I could only wish to own.

The next rendezvous would take place in... 2061! So, I had better not miss this 2010 date at Jupiter!
