2001: Destination Space
The Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose CA
February 8 - September 3, 2001
Sponsored by Lockheed-Martin
On February 8th,
2001, the Tech Museum of innovation in San Jose, California, held an 8
month long exhibition entitled 2001:
Destination Space; it combined artifacts and memorabilia from Stanley
Kubrickís epic movie 2001: A Space Odyssey with a touring exhibit of space
art by legendary artist Robert McCall.
The objective of the exhibition was to contrast the 1968 motion pictures portrayal of the future in 2001: A Space Odyssey with the actual accomplishments of technology as it is today.
The Tech Museums exhibit team and consultant Dennis Gonzales had 12 months of preparation time to research and create the exhibition which has received worldwide acclaim and it continues to be inspirational as a footnote to honor a great film in the real year 2001.
