2001: Odyssey to the Future
Discovery Science Center, Santa Ana CA
October 18, 2001
Sponsored by Orange County Space Society (OCSS)
The event was held at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, California
on Thursday evening, October 18, 2001, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A large
display was set up that included many artifacts from 2001: A Space
Odyssey. On hand were photographs, posters, paintings, models, display
boards, and many other pieces of 2001 paraphernalia. Highlight
of the display were an original red spacesuit helmet and also the light
blue flightsuit worn by Keir Dullea from the collection of Dennis Gilliam.
Models included the large scale Orion III, Aries 1-B, and the Moonbus.
Original 2001 hand-colored 11x14-inch lobby cards, record albums, calendars,
press kits, blueprints, and much more were on hand. The display boards
are a series of eight 20x30-inch laminated boards that have artwork, photographs,
and descriptions mounted to them. One of these boards includes a detailed
timeline of the events from 2001 as described in the original
draft script, movie, and novel. (It does not include inconstant dates
and events from any of the sequels.)
