Ames Research and Technology
(NASA Only)

In 1998, the NASA Ames Technical Reports Server (ATRS) became a marketing tool for Ames research & technology. There are three steps - The first step was to develop the Ames Research Center's Research & Technology Reports website from print to a web site. The primary purpose of the web site is to communicate knowledge and to inform our stakeholders, customers, and partners, and the people of the United States about the scope and diversity of the Ames mission, the nature of the research and technology activities. The second step was creating a CD-ROM of all of the Research & Technology Reports books in PDF format for internal distribution. You can view the PDF file at the NASA Ames Research Center's Library website: ameslib.arc.nasa.gov/randt/rtreports.html.

The third step is to provide data to Ames management to approve that the center is getting worldwide attention through research. This was the first time I used marketing techniques by extracting valuable data from ATRS web logs of visitors who use the ATRS. The traffic is the key to fund Ames research & technology.
The most challenging parts of this project was figuring way to convert the book concept into a web site, finding the best way to extract data from web logs into a form people can understand. I also learned to understand all the different sciences of Ames Research Center have to offer for marketing. I had the opportunity to work with Chief Scientist Dr. Stephanie Langhoff and Technical Editor of Publications, Charlotte Barton which they not only extended my beliefs to fund research but also learned the art of marketing. art of marketing. This was the first NASA web site that I created web graphics from the print version.

created web graphics from the print version. Tools I used are Adobe's Acrobat, Photoshop, and Graphic Converter for optimization. HTML was done by hand through SimpleText and VI editor.
