Anomaly-1

Tycho Magnetic Anomaly-1 (also known as TMA-1) is a fictional extraterrestrial phenomenon in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and the book of the same name. TMA-1 refers to the apparent magnetic irregularity found by American astronauts near the crater, Tycho on the moonís surface.

The disturbance is caused by an object buried 30 feet under the lunar surface. When exposed, it was found to be a black rectangular whose sides measured in the precise ratio 1:4:9 (12:22:32).

It is precisely fashioned and at three million years of age, was not made by humans. It is the first evidence for the existence of intelligent life off the Earth. Floyd and a team of scientists drive across the moon to actually view TMA-1. They arrive just as sunlight hits upon it for the first time in three million years. It then sends a piercing radio transmission to the far reaches of the solar system.

I don't believe the TMA-1 is an anagram as theorized by Leonard F. Wheat. TMA-1 was based on the original concepts based on Brookings Institute's famous report to NASA. According Arthur C. Clarkeís recollection: "they decided to make 2001 after spotting a UFO from the roof of Kubrick's apartment. Staring at the bright full moon, they saw a light move up into the star-splattered night sky and stop above them." It turned out to be a satellite but nevertheless, Kubrick theorizes that there is something to the UFO phenomena based on the 1968 Playboy interview. "The evidence proves they're up there, but it gives us very little clue as to what they are... It's also possible that they are perfectly natural phenomena, perhaps chain lightning, as one American science writer has suggested; although this, again, does not explain some of the photographs taken by reputable sources, such as the Argentine navy, which clearly show spherical metallic objects hovering in the sky."
