Aug 30, 2001:

Greetings from Dennis Gonzales

33 years later.

4 days to go until the closing of "2001:DESTINATION SPACE"!

Over the weekend I had the chance to meet people from around the world at the Tech Museum that came to see the exhibition through my web site or radio show. My photographer, Mark Watson and I had a unique opportunity to discuss "2001", Kubrick and Clarke amongst other fans.
It was an experience I'll never forget. Other people sent me email that had a chance to see the exhibition over the weekend were grateful for the work we did at the Tech Museum of Innovation.

During the past two weeks and the next few days, we are documenting the exhibition on film and pictures. The film will be used for an independent documentary about how the exhibit began and the pictures will be used for an on-line version of "2001:DESTINATION SPACE." Look for the on-line version Oct. 1, 2001. The Tech Museum's "2001:DESTINATION SPACE" web site will remain on-line. Once I have the new URL, we'll post it on my site and the World Tonight newsletter.

On Monday, August 20, 2001, on radio station KFJC FM 89.7, Los Altos Hills on "THOUGHTLINE", was our second on-line broadcast about "2001: a space odyssey". The program was a success! Host, Robert Emmett set the tone for discussion and I helped with the program and phone calls. Harry Lange (Set Designer for "2001") was a good sport being it was 2 AM in the UK! Dr. Arthur C. Clarke was not 100% before the show but wanted to go through with the discussions. His brilliant and controversial opinions about life on Mars were one of the few times he has mentioned it in the media. Fred Ordway (Science Advisor for "2001") discussed about his experience with Kubrick and on the set of "2001". Dr. David Stork helped with the questions and plugged his PBS special "HAL's Legacy."

We hope to have mpeg's of the show next month in our press/radio page. Keep checking back on my web site.

The art section is completely updated with new features from Mark Blunck and Robert M. Carey in the Gallery section. Plus a new fan gallery page has been added in the same section featuring Mike Jackson, Glenn Ludgate and Tim Fonseca. The Technology and Science section is now under development and hopefully will be completed by next weekend.
I'll be late with my story about my visit to Kennedy Space Center this month but will post it by mid-September. The experience has reconfirmed my support for space exploration and to continue this web site after 2001.
I missed the Dr. Greer's Disclosure Project lecture last month because I was at the Robert T. McCall lecture at the Tech Museum. I've followed Dr. Greer's project for more than three years but he will be at the Bay Area UFO Expo 3rd conference in September, San Francisco. For more information, go to http://www.bayareaufoexpo.com. If you like to know how the McCall lecture was, you can read about the presentation in the Arts category in the Gallery section. The article was written by Mark Blunck.

I'll be at the Tech Museum Friday morning and Saturday afternoon incase you like to meet me for lunch or coffee. Let'stalk "2001"!

    See you next Wednesday (Frank)

Gary Lockwood has updated his product page with a new autobiography and a beautiful large color photograph of himself and Kier Dullea. Both items are now selling on his site at http://www.garylockwood2001.com.

2001 in 2001: How a Film Inspired Our Future
    Friday, 17 August
    12:30 - 2 PM
In 1968, Stanley Kubrick created a motion picture that did much more than tell a story. "2001" defined the future and our place in it, inspired a generation of artists and filmmakers, and created a new perspective of the world. In this very special session, industry veterans, historians, and visionaries take us on a journey through "2001," discussing how its influent will extend far into the 21st century and the possible futures that await us.

Jose Luis Ayuso from TWINCH SQUAD will be sending out first big spacesuits batch around the end of August. Jose Luis has reported that they've improved some processes and now the spacesuits look much better than the first orders.
