| Oct. 31, 2001: Greetings from Dennis Gonzales 33 years later.
To everyone in the U.S. - Happy Halloween! This is my favorite time of the year. I've been extremely busy since the last newsletter and it's only going to get busier during the holidays. Three years ago this month, I had my first public exhibition that most of you remember, "The Space:1999 Collectible and Nostalgic Exhibit". The exhibit was the prerequisite to the "2001' exhibits and 2001exhibit.org. "The Art of the Yellow Submarine" exhibition begins November 8th to 30th at The San Mateo Library, 55 West Third Ave. Tel: 650.522.7800. Mon - Thurs, 10 am - 9 PM, Fri - Sat, 10 am - 5 PM, Sun, 1 PM - 5 PM. This 10x4 exhibit is completely paid for by Kinko's, Vinyl Solutions, and Talbot's Toyland Hobbies from San Mateo CA. And CD Land, Movie Memories and University Arts from Palo Alto CA. This is my final public exhibition and I hope you can come onboard and sail with us to Pepperland. NARCON Coordinator, Steve Rogers reminds us about his conference, NARCON 2002, Austin, Texas. Keynotes speakers are Fred Ordway, Ron Miller, and Dave Portree on the transition from the vision of space exploration in the 50's and 60's to the reality we have now, and the future. For details, go to http://www.narcon2002.org or contact Steve at NARCON2002@austin.rr.com Many people have been asking me about the Arthur C. Clarke gala event being held at the Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion. I'm still checking but if anyone knows more than what the news has put out. Let me know. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20011028/en/arthur_clarke_1.html I'll be attending several showings of "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the Castro Theater, San Francisco from 11/21 to 12/6. If you plan to attend, and want to watch the film with me, send email to webmaster@2001exhibit.org or elusive94401@yahoo.com and perhaps we can make a rendezvous. The USA exhibits category in the Exhibits section has been updated with a new feature called "2001: Odyssey to the Future" from OCSS President, Larry Evans. Visit http://www.2001exhibit.org/exhibits/usa.html I had the liberty to received two OCSS (Orange County Space Society) chapter newsletters (Volume 12 #5 and #8) from Larry Evans. Not only it's an excellent space publication but a great tribute to "2001: A Space Odyssey." One newsletter is from the first time OCSS put on the "2001" program at the Discovery Science Center back in April, and the other newsletter is about the International Space Development Conference in May that featured a "2001" theme and many people involved with the making of the movie. For details about subscription, contact Larry Evans, Mach25Comm@aol.com. Michael Faries, curator of Space1999.org has given us (This mailing list) an opportunity to ask any question about "2001" to special effects model maker, Brian Johnson via Space1999.org. To do this, go to http://www.space1999.org/features/ask_brianjohnson/index.html We appreciate Michael plugging "2001" fans to the "Space:1999" site. It's a great web site and one of my favorites. I've been given permission to reprint all questions regarding "2001" from Mr. Johnson's Q/A on the 2001exhibit.org site and I hope to do this in December. But you can read his Q/A at http://www.space1999.org/features/ask_brianjohnson/2001-10a.html Keep sending email to me on the latest "2001" news and keep checking the press section for updates. http://www.2001exhibit.org/2001expo.html Thank you. See you next Wednesday (Frank) Posted by: Dennis Gonzales 2001: Exhibit |
