December 25, 2002:

Greetings from Dennis Gonzales

    and
    Seasons Greetings!

I have to say, that I am STILL not through with the technology section for our Discovery Flash presentation due to the fact I’m buried with work at my "real" job. Yes, I do have a job. But we had to update the Discovery Centrifuge blueprint anyway during this week but we are almost there.
We also had to postpone photo shoots and other behind the scene projects until January due to my work overload, so keep checking out the newsletter

2001: A Space Odyssey IMAX Response.
Ever since "2001" fan, Robert Carey suggested to me about turning "2001" into IMAX on the World Tonight, I was swamped with emails:

"Hello Dennis, I'm Steve and as a 2001: A Space Odyssey fan I would love to see an IMAX print of the film. Here in Virginia I have 3 IMAX theatres I can choose from. The Richmond Science Museum has a domed screen. Other 2 IMAX theatres in Hampton and Virginia Beach have flat screens. I last saw 2001: A Space Odyssey in November of 2001 in Cinerama at the Uptown in D.C. and it was awesome. I sat in the balcony next to the left original Cinerama projection booth and a huge array of speakers. I bought 6 tickets online and used only 2. I was going to see it twice but I got a headache. Thanks,
    Steve Ingels

"I’m a real believer that "2001: A Space Odyssey" must be released in IMAX format, for three main reasons:
First: One of the visual effects supervisor of the work made by Stanley Kubrick is Mr. Douglas Trunbull (also credited for Spielberg´s "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind") which, by the way, is CEO of the IMAX company.
Second: The fact that this film was already made in Super Panavision and Cinerama, which is far more easy to transfer to 70 mm (IMAX Format).
And Third: If such films as "Apollo 13" and "Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones" were released in this format, considering their recent releases (1995 and 2002, respectively), why cant a classic, inspiring, trendsetter and masterful piece of art and knowledge be given a royal treatment? Let’s hope that the IMAX people have a little of common sense.

    Happy Thanksgiving!
    Frank.

"Yes, I completely concur that we are due a version of 2001 on IMAX! I'd been thinking along those lines for several years now.

    Sincerely,
    Don Kennedy

How do people feel about this idea since now "Apollo 13" is this format? To reach Robert, his email address is hari@second-foundation.org. Or email me at webmaster@2001exhibit.org.

    TV/Film Alert:
I saw an episode of "Will And Grace" from the 2001 season and Jack performed his one man cabaret show as "2001: A Jack Odyssey" with the theme music.

    "2001" Movie Update!
"2001" fan Terry Boblet (tboblet2001@yahoo.com) has alerted me on some schedule changes and updates at the Chabot Science Center. Not only is "2001" playing next year but also "2010: The Year We Make Contact!"

For further information about the San Francisco/Oakland, California showing, go to:
    http://www.chabotspace.org/visit/theater.asp

A lot of people have contacted me about seeing "2001" at the Chabot Science Center and I haven’t respond to anyone yet but please let me know which day or time you plan to go so we can coordinate a group meeting.

Also, this is my last newsletter for 2002. I didn’t think we have so much to report this year after the big year ended with my exhibition. In fact, the newsletter has grown in size as a favorite for many "2001" and science fiction fans around the world as well as the website. We had so much news to tell you that we just didn’t get it all in time due to the fact we are a small operation. But keep a look out for interviews from many science fiction and film artists that are in the works! And keep this website alive and growing by sending anything you have on "2001/2010" or space news and I’ll give you special credit! Until then…

    See you next Wednesday (Frank)
    and Happy New Year.

Iím looking for talented model makers and digital artists to help me design and build spaceships and other technology from Sir Arthur C. Clarkeís "2061" and "3001" books. The request is part of my campaign to convince moviemakers the importance of bringing the books to the big screen. And using this website is a palette in behalf of Sir Arthur C. Clarke. For more information, please contact me.
