July 31, 2002:

Greetings from Dennis Gonzales

I took another week off from the newsletter because we're still working
on adding more "Space Odyssey" pictures and articles. And this week,
    we have updated the site.

    Website Updates:
Matthew Vanka and Danielle Belanger from the band, FEATHERED (www.feathered.ca), share with us a "2001" spoof find. Matthew came across a very interesting piece of film prop from the movie "2001: A Space Travesty." The airplane seat that Leslie Neilson sits in during a ridiculous gravity scene. The scene goes on for quite a while and the viewer gets a good sense for the design of the seat:

If you have a Film/TV alert, let us know!
Speaking of Film and TV alerts, I finally saw the Bank of America commercial that "2001" fan Terry Boblet reported to us two newsletters ago and it’s very "Space Odyssey/Clarke" like. Monoliths invade this bank commercial.

We now have a new timeline page just for "2001: A Space Odyssey" featuring 3 different timelines sources. This week, we feature "2001: A Chronicled Odyssey," by Dana E. Lubich. Visit the Timeline category in the science section:

Dana reports to the World Tonight that the July issue of National Geographic has an article on Nuclear Waste Dumps. "There's an aerial shot of round storage drums buried in the ground. They look VERY SIMILAR to certain dump sites on the moon (in Space:1999 episode, "Breakaway"!) Fiction becoming Fact? They're just buried on the wrong planet!" says, Dana.l
