June 12, 2002:

Greetings from Dennis Gonzales

I’m still alive and I haven’t caught the bug at my work place at NASA Ames Research Center. In fact, they are cleaning out our pipes with chorine on Friday as a precaution to eliminate any sign of Legionnaires’ Disease. I had to skip last week’s newsletter because we’re still working in updating the website with new stuff!

    Website Updates:
The HAL Brain-room is alive and well! We took model maker and makeup artist, Harrison Lorenzana's Hal faceplate and Josh Koral who built and designed the brain room set for Mortarotti Ramirez Productions "2001" spoof for Comdex, "2001: The Future Is Not What It Used To Be" and put in our own touches. Visit the model category in the arts section:
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/models/hal9000.html
    Or
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/models/hal_harr_josh.html
(Mark Watson did all photography work).

Mike Smithwick from Distantsuns.Com showcases his Capt. Cardboard Space Pod. Visit the model category in the arts section:
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/models/spacepod.html
    Or
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/models/mike_spacepod.html

We’ve updated Terry Boblet’s "2001" flatware pages with her new bio in the arts section in the furnishing category: http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/terry_2001flatware2.html

And speaking of Terry Boblet, she has recreated in Adobe Illustrator, the out of print blueprints of Shane Johnson’s Discovery One spacecraft. This blueprint version has been altered based on Scott Alexander’s Discovery One spacecraft from the Tech Museum:
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/science/spaceships2.html
    Or
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/science/discovery2.html
    More new blueprints to follow!

And speaking of the Tech Museum, "Yahoo! Picks" has chose the "2001: Destination Space" website as the pick of the day!
    http://picks.yahoo.com/picks/20010625.html
    Way to go guys!

We’ve updated the "2010" Design pages in the Arts section with new computer graphics:
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/frames10.html
We’ll continue to add new "2010" graphics in the next few days! If you have anything to share with us from the film, please contact me.

    Our Sitemaps are updated:
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/sitemap.html
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/sitemap2.html
    http://www.2001exhibit.org/sitemap3.html

If you have "2001/2010" news to report to the World Tonight, please send them to me! I’m also looking for pictures from the Tech Museum to share on my website if you were there last year. Until then…

    See you next Wednesday (Frank).

    Collectors Corner:
Last year, we interviewed Phil Vendy from Underman’s 2001 (http://www.2001exhibit.org/press/2001news_june.html). His website is the most comprehensive on-line film resource, dedicated totally to "2001: A Space Odyssey." This year, I interview Avie Hern, owner of the original "2001" spacesuit.

To read the interview, visit the spacesuit category under Models in the art section: http://www.2001exhibit.org/arts/models/avie_spacesuit.html
