We’re still busy
upgrading the website and creating new sections. We’ve finally finished
the HAL 9000 brain room photo shoots with fantastic results and we’re
about to start the next project by recreating the 8-screen Discovery panel
for the Lunar Model’s HAL 9000 kit, built by Vince Hoffman. Speaking
of Vince, he just finished renovating Glenn Lugate’s AE-35 Unit diorama.

We’ll be shooting the diorama in April along with other "Space Odyssey" models to be included in the model section.
If anyone from the San Francisco bay area is planning to see the San Francisco symphony perform Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra tomorrow, let me know. "2001" local fan, Terry Boblet has invited me to see Strauss’ greatest work at the Flint Center, Cupertino California (near Apple Computers). She will review the concert for The World Tonight next week. For further information:

THE WEBBY AWARDS REPORT: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY COLLECTIBLES EXHIBIT.
The Webby Awards review phase, and a short list of those with the highest scores in each category have been passed on to the Nominating Judges for consideration. This doesn’t mean we made that list but if we didn’t, consider thousands of entries were received from 36 countries and 44 states! It’s a very hard number to be considered but you never know. Nominees will be announced on Tuesday, April 29, 2002.
As you know, the Webby Awards is about recognizing websites with good content in a category. Since we are non-profit, the fee is 95.00 to enter the event and we are asking 5.00 per mailing list member to send to us to cover costs if they want to. We’ve been given an extension to apply but the organizers have given the "2001" Exhibit.Org a place for the awards without fee for the time being. SONY CORP.'S LATEST HUMANOID ROBOT SDR-4X

TOKYO — The newest Sony Corp. family member has a photographic memory, an extensive vocabulary and a jukebox-like knowledge of music.
He also comes with a clunky, sci-fi name and a price tag resembling that of a luxury car.
The silver, round-eyed SDR-4X humanoid robot was unveiled Tuesday and will go on sale later this year. Sony Corp. would not say much more about its plans for the 23-inch tall robot.
``This robot was designed to live with people in homes,'' said Toshitada Doi, Sony executive vice president.
For that, the robot has sensors on the bottom of its feet to help it walk on uneven surfaces such as carpeting and has been programmed to tumble without falling apart and then get up on its own, Doi said.
