May 28, 2003:

Greetings from Dennis Gonzales

"On Friday, June 13 2003, Bowman exits Discovery 1 to investigate a giant artifact similar to TMA-1. Bowman enters the Star Gate and is transported across 20,000 light years to a point near the galactic core. Here the aliens that first taught humankind to survive 4 million years before transform him.
Bowman returns to Earth as the Star Child with powers to change the future course of history." - Larry Evans, 2001 Timeline

    Greetings from Dennis Gonzales

Once again TWT has become a monthly newsletter but hopefully, we’ll continue to produce two reports each month after August. The main reasons for my delays have been the new FLASH blueprint project I’ve been working on for nearly a year. The project should be on-line by September 2003. The second reason of course is that we’re preparing for new "2001" photo shoots with photographer, Mark Watson for our model section. And The third reason is our campaign preparations to get the remaining "Space Odyssey" books made into films with the endorsement from Arthur C. Clarke has taken longer than I thought. The 4th and final excuse is a secret, which I’ve held for nearly a year and a half, which I am not at liberty to discuss, as Dr. Floyd would say. Hopefully, I can reveal this little surprise next Spring.
The big news this month is that the American Film Institute has added HAL 9000 as the top good and bad guys in American film on the CBS special "AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Heroes & Villains." HAL came in at number 13 (hmmm…. interesting number).

    Art/Furnishings:
"2001" fan Dirk Behlau from "pixeleye" has released a new magazine, "Sceyelines". It features Eva Maks Apartment, Eero Arnio, Verner Panton, Karim Rashid, Rian Hughes, the Panapaet Radio and more! For further information, visit, http://www.sceyelines.de for a preview.

    Space News:

FIRST SPACE TOURIST FROM N. IRELAND -
"2001" Fan, Derek Heatly is turning 48 this year, and these suborbital trips always seem to be five years away. But Derek has decided not to wait. Sometime in July, Space Adventures will give him a 6 min. zero G at Star City. The next day he’ll do their edge of space flight to 100000 ft at mach 2.5. Fully suited up, he’ll be weightless again, but only ten seconds. He told TWT that he looks forward to seeing the sun shining in a black sky. Derek will photograph a floating pen with a CAUTION WEIGHTLESS CONDITION sign, so he can send a copy to our website!

Let’s all wish Derek a safe flight into the hemisphere! You can contact him at derekheatly@ntlworld.co.uk.

Good luck and God Speed from the TWT.

I had the opportunity to see on our large wide screen monitors at NASA Ames Research Center, the MER "Spirit" launch on June 10 after 2 attempts. It was a spectacular launch! The next first launch opportunity is at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, at 11:56 p.m. June 28, Eastern Daylight Time (8:56 p.m. PDT. For further information, visit: http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mer/
